Concussions: Inevitability and Denial

April 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Christine Baugh, Class of 2010, was a four-time Varsity Letter winner and Captain of the 2010 Crew Team. Upon graduation, she shelved her oar, and delved into the study of Youth Sports, garnering a Master’s Degree from BU in Health Law, Bioethics and Human Rights. Her capstone research was Protecting Youth Football Players in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Also while at BU, she oversaw the first National Institute of Health-funded study of neurodegenerative disease associated with repetitive brain trauma. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Harvard, while conducting concussion research at the Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital.

Should our children run the risk of concussion by playing soccer or football? What are the risks later in life of head trauma suffered as school athletes? What is the NCAA’s ethical, professional and financial responsibility? Christine is incredibly informed on all these issues, while just six years out of the College. You will enjoy her perspective. Seating will be limited.
